Road Trip Day 1 - DC to Virginia to West Virginia

This is Stella's Blog, I (Stella's mom) started it as a digital baby book for my little monkey about 9 years ago. I stopped once my grandma stopped reading it. I figured facebook was able to keep my digital photo albums and happenings, so why bother with this? Last year I handed the blog over to Stella and she made a couple entries, but then she lost interest.

In an effort to not bombard my facebook feed with a ridiculous number of photos, I've decided to put everything back here and document our daily happenings. So, Thursday, July 30 I had a Pharmacology final. I had a few hours free, then Stella and I got on red eye flight to Washington DC. We landed Friday morning and promptly took a nap. We spent Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday, running errands to get ready to relocate my parents back to Southern California from Washington DC. We had lots of good meals while in DC and saw Mission Impossible. My mom is staying back in DC for a couple months for work. I wanted to drive out with my dad, but because of my school schedule, I had to be back home before school begins on August 17. So, my mom is going to be very lonely, in a very barren apartment.

Today, day 1, we traveled from Washington DC, through Virginia and then into West Virginia. My dad drove for about 3 then I took over and drove for another 3. Our traveling circus consisting of a complete control freak (me), Stella, my dad, my parents dog (Maggie, the Australian Shepherd) and the cat (Jojo) left around 7:15am. We stopped for Starbucks about an hour later.  The drive was absolutely beautiful!

Somewhere in Virginia on Interstate 81

We made it to West Virginia, which is also very very pretty. We stopped for lunch at a very fancy combined gas station and Subway. I ate my sandwich and my dad walked the dog. Both the dog and the cat behaved very well on the road!

We drove into Charleston, WV (hey 5th graders...that's the Capital) and past the Kanawha River. We followed the GPS on the phone, which we thought would take us less time. We will be following the directions from the hotel directly from this point forward! It turns out that the shortcut in the GPS took us to a lovely home in Elkview, WV.

Eventually, we found our hotel and got Stella in the pool. Charleston looks like a great town with some really interesting places to visit. We unfortunately are not staying in the interesting area, and we need to keep a close eye on the fur babies. More to come from me tomorrow. Here is Stella's take on the day!

Wow! I guess it wasn't as boring as I thought it was going to be. It was SO beautiful! If I did get bored with all the silo's and mountains and barns, I just played Interstate Highway Bingo (thank's Maca). We got into the hotel much earlier than I thought, I swam in the indoor swimming pool and then came back to the room. Boy are hotel shower's NICE! We went to Kmart and I got a cool lego "chain reactions" set which will be much cooler when I get home to the rest of my legos. We are going to dinner soon at a place called Bob Evans and ya, that's pretty much been our day.

From my dad: Don't trust the GPS

From maggie: road trips are ruff!
